St. Sebastian’s Women’s & Children’s Hospital

In 2021, we dedicated our year providing supplies to women’s shelters in California and laptops to underfunded all girls’ schools in India. Through our work, we learned that Ugandan women, especially recently widowed women and victims of domestic violence, often experience disparities in healthcare accessibility. In small towns, there is often no means of receiving medical attention, and women often face obstacles in traveling to receive proper care. To tackle this issue, we raised $30,000 to build a hospital in Namengo, Uganda — entirely dedicated to serving local women and their children.

Building the Hospital

After receiving a land grant from a local church, we fundraised over $30,000 to pay for the building of St. Sebastian’s Hospital. The bricks used to build the hospital are locally sourced in order to ensure that the construction efforts are both sustainable and environmentally responsible.

All services at St. Sebastian’s Hospital have been made available to all Ugandan women and their children, while offering free treatment to widows and victims of domestic violence. The cost of this treatment is covered by additional fundraising and grants received from individual donors. If you are interested in sponsoring the treatment of a patient, please contact us.

The hospital is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Looking Forward

Building a hospital in Africa has easily been one of the most difficult projects we have ever taken on. It required tens of thousands of dollars, support from city officials in Namengo, and an incredible amount of perseverance and dedication from our volunteers in California. Thanks to the determination and generosity of everyone involved, we are able to kickstart 2022 with a truly incredible project — one that will undoubtedly leave an impact on hundreds of lives.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in August 2022. The Allies Against Abuse team was able to travel to Namengo to commemorate the completion of the hospital.

Moving forward, we are looking to expand healthcare accessibility for women in Namengo as well as in neighboring villages.
